ABOUT US

The Team at Avenue Rescue Group

Avenue Rescue Group was founded by a group of military veterans and former law enforcement professionals with a shared love for animals and a deep understanding of the impact a loyal and loving dog can have on a person's life. Our organization is committed to rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need and finding them loving, forever homes. We are dedicated to providing our dogs with the care, medical attention, and training they need to thrive in their new homes, while also supporting our adopters in their journey to becoming responsible and loving dog parents.

What sets us apart is our approach to addressing the challenges faced by dogs and dog rescues. Our motto "Collaboration instead of Competition" represents our commitment to working together with other dog rescues in the area to maximize our collective impact and save more lives. We believe in the power of community and the idea that "We All Rise Together" - when we join forces, we can achieve more than we ever could on our own.

Our Values: G.I.V.E.

Growth

We strive to grow and improve as an organization, always seeking new ways to better serve the dogs in our care and the people who support us.

Integrity

We act with honesty, transparency, and professionalism in all aspects of our work, building trust with our community, partners, and supporters.

Velocity

We move quickly and efficiently to rescue dogs in need, and to find them loving, forever homes as soon as possible

Excellence

We hold ourselves to the highest standards in all that we do, from the care we provide to our dogs, to the support we offer our adopters, volunteers, and community.

By supporting Avenue Rescue Group, you are not only helping us save the lives of dogs in need, but you are also helping us create a community of people who share our values and our passion for animals. We invite you to join us in our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need, and to make a positive impact on the lives of these amazing animals.

We are also extremely proud of our special program, Operation: Vets4Pets, which pairs military veterans with selected rescue dogs, benefiting the veteran and the dog alike. While many of our veterans contend with mental health issues such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression as a result of their service, many of our dogs struggle with the same issues as a result of neglect, abuse, and abandonment. By working together, both veteran and canine may regain a sense of purpose, rebuild trust, and begin the process of healing through the companionship and love they provide each other.

We invite you to browse our website and learn more about our organization. You'll find information about our adoptable dogs, adoption process, and how you can get involved. Whether you're searching for a new furry family member, would like to volunteer your time, or make a donation, we welcome you to join our community of animal lovers and military supporters.

Thank you for considering Avenue Rescue Group nonprofit. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of dogs and veterans.

Sincerely,

The Avenue Rescue Group Team

PERSONAL TESTIMONIALS

Why we do what we do....we get back more than we give.

Personal testimony from one on the directors at Avenue Rescue Group:

From the moment I first saw you on that fateful day in Iraq, I knew that you were something special. You were injured and alone, but you still had a spark in your eye that drew me to you. With the help of our kennel master, we were able to bring you back to the United States to receive the care that you deserved. And now, years later, I can confidently say that you are one of the most amazing dogs I have ever known.

You've been with me through thick and thin, always by my side no matter what challenges we faced. You've comforted me during difficult times and celebrated with me during good times. Your loyalty and devotion are unwavering, and I am so grateful to have you in my life.

I love how you greet me with a big, goofy grin every time I come home. I love how you follow me around the house, always curious about what I'm doing. I love how you snuggle up next to me and make me feel loved.

You are truly one of a kind, Osiris. You've overcome so much, from your injury in Iraq to adapting to a new life in the United States. But through it all, you've remained strong and resilient. You are a testament to the power of love and perseverance, and I am in awe of your spirit.

Thank you for being my constant companion and for bringing so much joy and love into my life. I am forever grateful for you, my amazing dog.

With all my love,

Bill Macauley

Leave No Dog Behind

At Avenue Rescue Group, we know that military service can often mean difficult choices for active duty members and their families. One of the toughest decisions can be what to do with their beloved four-legged friends when they are deployed overseas. According to a study conducted by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in 2018, approximately 7% of military families who have pets had to relinquish them to animal shelters or rescue organizations because of deployment or other service-related responsibilities. This translates to around 4,000 pets being surrendered annually by military families.

That's why we're proud to announce our newest program, Operation: Leave No Dog Behind. Our program is designed to support military families facing deployment by providing foster care for their pets during their absence. We understand that pets are family, and we want to ensure that they receive the love and care they deserve while their owners are serving our country.

Leave-No-Dog-Behind2.png

When a military family enrolls their pet in our program, we work closely with them to ensure that their furry friend receives the best possible care. We provide a home-based foster network that offers a comfortable, nurturing environment for the pets to thrive in, while receiving necessary veterinary care, food, and supplies. Our fosters are compassionate, responsible, and trained to provide a safe and loving temporary home for these pets.

Our program also offers peace of mind to military members who are concerned about the welfare of their pets while they're deployed. They can rest assured that their furry friends are in good hands and that they'll be reunited with them when they return home.

At Avenue Rescue Group, we believe in the power of the human-canine bond and that pets can provide emotional support to military members and their families. By offering this service, we hope to reduce the number of pets that are surrendered to shelters or abandoned when their owners are called to serve our country.

If you or someone you know is a military member facing deployment and needs assistance with their pet, please don't hesitate to contact us. Our program is free of charge, and we're honored to be able to serve those who serve our country.

Thank you for considering our Operation: Leave No Dog Behind program. Together, we can ensure that no pet is left behind because of military service.

Together We Rescue Each Other:

The idea is that by pairing these dogs with veterans, both parties find a sense of purpose, healing, and belonging, ultimately benefiting from the relationship in ways that go beyond traditional dog adoptions.

Military veterans make great dog owners for several reasons:

Sense of camaraderie

Veterans often develop a strong sense of camaraderie and loyalty through their service which often translates into a strong bond with their dogs. This bond leads to a profound level of understanding and trust between the veteran and their dog, which benefits them both.

Leadership and discipline

Military training often emphasizes leadership, discipline, and attention to detail, all of which are valuable qualities in a dog owner. Veterans may be more likely to establish clear boundaries and rules for their dog, which lead to a well-behaved and well-trained pet.

Experience with teamwork

Veterans are often experienced in working as part of a team and understanding how individual roles and responsibilities contribute to the success of the group. This can translate into effective communication & collaboration between the veteran and their dog, leading to a strong and productive partnership.

Effective communication

Veterans are often required to communicate critical information in high-pressure situations, and to collaborate effectively under pressure, which can translate into effective communication with their dog, leading to a strong and productive partnership.

Active lifestyle

Many veterans maintain an active lifestyle after their military service, which benefits dogs who require daily exercise and mental stimulation. Veterans may be more likely to engage in activities such as hiking, running, or training with their dog, leading to a healthier and happier pet.

Understanding of service animals

Veterans who have received service animals as part of their treatment or rehabilitation have a deeper understanding of the role dogs play in supporting their owners. This understanding leads to a greater appreciation for and dedication to their pet dog.

Overall, military veterans can make excellent dog owners due to their unique skills, experience, and dedication to their canine companions.

Support Our mission

At Avenue Rescue Group, we are dedicated to saving the lives of homeless and abandoned dogs and finding them forever homes. We believe that every dog deserves to live a happy and healthy life, and we work tirelessly to make that a reality. But we can't do it alone. That's where you come in. By making financial contributions or donating pet supplies to Avenue Rescue Group, you are directly supporting our mission and helping us save the lives of dogs in need.

Here are a few reasons why your donation is so important

Providing medical care

Many of the dogs we rescue require medical attention for injury, illness, or basic preventative care. Your donations help us provide the medical care necessary to ensure that these dogs are healthy and ready for adoption.

Covering operating expenses

Operating an animal rescue requires considerable resources, from paying for utilities and rent, to buying pet food and supplies. Your donations help cover these operating expenses and keep our organization running smoothly.

Finding forever homes

Our ultimate goal is to find forever homes for the dogs we rescue. Your donations help us cover adoption fees, marketing, and other expenses associated with finding the perfect match for each dog.

Making a difference

By donating to Avenue Rescue Group, you make a real difference to the lives of dogs in need. Your support allows us to continue our life-saving work and provide an otherwise abandoned dog with a second chance

At Avenue Rescue Group, we are committed to transparency and accountability. We will always be open and honest about how your donations are used, and we promise to use all funds as effectively and efficiently as possible to achieve our mission. With your support, we can continue to save the lives of animals and make a positive impact in our community. Please remember, Avenue Rescue Group is a non-profit so your donation may be tax deductible. Thank you for your consideration and support.

Dear Animal Lover,

We would like to share with you the story of Bubba, an elderly American bulldog who was dumped in front of a stranger's house in April of 2022. Bubba was found roaming around for hours before he was finally taken in by a caring individual who brought him to the vet.

Unfortunately, Bubba was diagnosed with cancer and had several large masses all over his body.

Despite their best efforts, Bubba's rescuer was unable to afford the type of care that he needed. This led to the heartbreaking decision to let Bubba cross the rainbow bridge, knowing that he would be at peace and free from pain.

In honor of Bubba's memory, Avenue Rescue Group was created to help injured and sick dogs who may not have a chance without our intervention. We believe that every dog deserves a second chance at life, and that is what we strive to provide.

Your donation can make a huge difference in the lives of the dogs we rescue. With your support, we can provide medical care, food, shelter, and rehabilitation for the dogs that come into our care. Every dollar counts, and every donation goes directly towards helping dogs in need.

We would be honored for you to join us in our mission to save dogs like Bubba. With your help, we can make sure that no dog suffers alone.

Thank you for considering a donation to Avenue Rescue Group. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of dogs who need us the most.

Sincerely,

The Avenue Rescue Group Team

Adopt - Don't Shop

3 best reasons to adopt a dog in need instead of purchasing one

Save a life

Every year, millions of dogs are euthanized in animal shelters because they are unwanted or abandoned. By adopting a dog in need, you are giving a loving and loyal companion a second chance to find a forever home. Adopting a dog can literally save a life, and give you a sense of fulfillment and purpose.

Companionship

Dogs are known for their loyalty and affectionate nature, and adopting a dog can provide a sense of companionship that can greatly benefit a person's emotional well-being. Having a dog around can help reduce feelings of loneliness, depression, and anxiety, and provide a source of comfort and support.

Breeding practices

When you adopt a dog from a shelter, you are not contributing to the demand for puppies from commercial breeders (often referred to as puppy mills) or backyard breeders. These breeding practices can be inhumane and result in puppies with medical and behavioral problemsAdopting a dog

Improved physical health

Dogs require daily exercise, which can encourage their owners to be more active as well. Adopting a dog can provide an incentive to get outside and go for walks or hikes, which can improve physical health and help reduce the risk of certain health conditions, such as heart disease and obesity.

Trained & socialized dog

Many dogs in shelters are surrendered by their previous owners due to changes in life circumstances, not because of behavioral issues. This means that dogs in shelters are often already house-trained and have basic obedience training. Additionally, dogs who have been in shelters are usually well-socialized

Reduced stress

Spending time with a dog can have a calming effect and help reduce stress levels. Petting a dog has been shown to lower blood pressure and heart rate, and interacting with a dog can help reduce feelings of anxiety and tension

Sense of purpose

Adopting a dog can provide a sense of purpose and responsibility, which can be beneficial for a person's mental health. Caring for a dog and providing for its needs can provide a sense of accomplishment and help boost self-esteem.

Increased socialization

Owning a dog can increase opportunities for socialization, as dog owners often meet other dog owners while out on walks or at the dog park. This can help combat feelings of social isolation and loneliness and provide a sense of community.
